He quit it after he had made enough money to move to an apartment in Hollywood and started the short-lived band, Fallen Angels which later transformed into the more well known present-day Megadeth (based on the name of a song he wrote). Mustaine then came back to live with his mom in California where he set aside up enough cash to migrate to Hollywood.Īfter moving to California, he secured his first real job as a telemarketer. He co-wrote songs for Metallica, which appeared on "Kill Em All and Rode the Lightning." After working two years with Metallica, he was fired from the job due to drug abuse, alcoholism, and irresponsible behavior toward others. In 1981 Dave joined Metallica, which was comprised of drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield as a lead guitarist. The band later self-destructed in 1981 after the death of two of its members in a car crash after the band's first show. As a youngster, Dave Mustaine joined his first genuine band Panic during the 1970s as the lead guitarist.
